Well, I have to say that Pedro wasn’t bad last night. He went 5 solid innings, allowing only 3 runs on 7 hits and struck out 5 while walking only 1. His control was off at times, but he threw 99 pitches, 64 for strikes, so not a bad ratio. He also hit 93 on the radar run in the 5th inning, after throwing more than 80 pitches already so his velocity is still pretty good. Better than the 80 mph fastballs that Moyer throws.
Ok, enough Moyer trashing, because I do really like the guy. but Pedro was able to pitch 5 strong innings, getting out of jams when he got himself into one and strike guys out in crucial situations. While I don’t think he’s a middle of the rotation kind of guy, I do think he can be a serviceable 5th starter that can consistently give 5-7 innings of good work. Of course, it helped that he got 12 runs of support from the offense in this one too.
